Sorsogon State College (SSC) is the former Sorsogon College of Arts and Trades (SCAT), which was founded in 1907 as the Sorsogon Provincial Trade School. Through the effort of Hon. Salvador H. Escudero III the school was converted into a state college by the virtue of RA 7666 approved by Pres. Fidel V. Ramos on December 30, 1993.

SSC is ope-rationalized through a province-wide umbrella system with the Sorsogon City Campus as the core into which three other former technical-vocational schools are integrated namely, the former Bulan Vocational High School which is now the Bulan Campus; The former Sorsogon National Agricultural School in Mayon, Castilla, Sorsogon, now the Castilla Campus; and the former Magallanes School of Fisheries in Magallanes, Sorsogon, now the Magallanes Campus. Each of these campuses is a niche for specific program offerings.

Dr. Augusto R. Nieves, the first President of the College, Served for two terms, from 1995 to 2005. He instituted a number of academic and administrative programs that placed SSC in the ranks of high performing tertiary institution in the Bicol Region.

Now with Dr. Antonio E. Fuentes at the helm since his induction into the presidency on November 20, 2005, SSC is working towards offering new academic programs in addition to the existing ones and empowering the faculty and staff for quality instruction, research, extension and production.
