The “Family Based Action for Children in Environment and Slums (FACES)-Livelihood Lecture Series”, unified the Sorsogon State College (SSC), Bicol University (BU) and City government of Sorsogon improve the lives of the 40 families in the slum areas in Barangay Sirangan, Sorsogon city.
To show their commitment and support to the project which started on May 3, 2014 and will end on April 2016, Dr. Modesto D. Detera, SSC president II, Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya, BU president IV, Hon. Sally A. Lee, Sorsogon City mayor and Hon Josephine D. Lanuza, Sirangan barangay captain signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) on October 1, 2014 .
This extension program tagged as FACES aims to support the Millennium development goal 1 and 2 to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger and to achieve universal primary education to include functional literacy.
This endeavor is conducting series of livelihood lectures on food technologies, beauty culture and cosmetology with massage for a period of six months. The training for food technologies started on May 3, 2014 and it ended on Oct. 29, 2014. Further, the training in Beauty Culture started on November 8, 2014 and to end on April 2015. The Cosmetology with massage will follow and be conducted for six months also.
The Bicol University, through its Extension Service center, offers technical staff to give direction to the project implementation, supplies resource speakers, conducts the participants baseline data, training needs assessment, training evaluation, post training evaluation, training documentation and the preparation of terminal report.
Likewise, Sorsogon State College through its Extension Office and the Department of Food and Technology conduct series of trainings and provide technical support in terms of technical writing, and resource speakership.
The Barangay Council of Sirangan, takes care of the recruitment of the participants from its constituents, participates in the monitoring and evaluation of the activities, ensures the participation recipients and provides sound system and snacks during the opening and closing of the project.
The SSC faculty who are involved in this activity are: Dr. Fe Mendoza, project coordinator, Prof. Felomina D. Sacay, Extension Coordinator, Shirley G. Dicen, and Amalia D. Vicedo, trainors—resource speakers in food technologies and Prof. Leticia B. Tangco, trainor—resource speaker in beauty culture. They work with the personnel from BU and Social Welfare and Development of the City Government of Sorsogon.
