SorSU – Castilla Campus collaborates with FAREAST for USA Agricultural Training Programs Webinar Orientation

In a collaboration aimed at fostering international exchange and training in agriculture, FAREAST, a distinguished representative of a US Sponsoring Organization, joined forces with Sorsogon State University – Castilla Campus in hosting a webinar orientation on USA Agricultural Training Programs. The event, conducted via Zoom on March 4, 2024, was participated by 130 fourth-year agriculture students, graduates, campus employees, and university officials.

The webinar commenced with an inspiring address from SorSU President, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, who highlighted the significance of hands-on learning and the invaluable opportunities that await through international training programs. She extended her gratitude to FAREAST for their collaboration, emphasizing the role of such endeavors in strengthening SorSU’s internationalization and preparing graduates for success in the global arena.

Dr. Vivien L. Chua, International Relations Office Director, reaffirmed SorSU’s commitment to internationalization through strategic collaborations with globally renowned entities. Dr. Chua commended the proactive efforts of SorSU Castilla Campus in pursuing internationalization initiatives, noting the potential for expanded opportunities for its students and graduates.

The webinar proceeded with Ms. Melody Llabres, Career & Job Placement/ILDO Coordinator, introducing the esteemed resource speaker, Ms. Joyce Manabat, International Coordinator and Embassy Coach of FAREAST. Ms. Manabat provided insights into FAREAST’s partnership with the WISE foundation in the USA, detailing past collaborations with schools and universities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. She explained the application process and requirements for interns and trainees, stressing the transformative impact of the 12-month training program and the career opportunities after the program.

The interactive session transitioned into an engaging open forum, moderated by Ms. Mari Anne B. Gojar, International Relations Office Coordinator; Ms. Melody Llabres, Career & Job Placement/ILDO Coordinator; and Ms. Marinel Locaba, Alumni Affairs Office Coordinator. Participants posed questions, ranging from the benefits of the program, requirements and duration of the application, payment of program fees, and potential collaborations between SorSU and FAREAST. Ms. Manabat affirmed the possibility of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two entities, highlighting the webinar’s role in laying the groundwork for future partnerships.

In recognition of their invaluable contribution, Ms. Joyce Manabat and FAREAST were honored with certificates of commendation. Dr. Rochele N. Aragon, Dean of the College of Agriculture, extended heartfelt thanks on behalf of Prof. Andrew F. Detera, Castilla Campus Director, to the SorSU Administration, International Relations Office, Career & Job Placement/ILDO, Alumni Affairs Office, and FAREAST for the successful execution of the webinar.
