The University Seal

The Sorsogon State University’s overall logo configuration is in a circular form – an unbroken circle which signifies unity, wholeness and infinity towards providing Quality Education. Along the outer edge of the circle is the name of the school – Sorsogon State University the Laurel leaves, and 1907. These three, highlights the name of the institution; the symbol of victory and honor; and to commemorate the year 1907 when Sorsogon Provincial Trade School was established by Mr. Harris, intentionally placed at the bottom/base of the logo to signify the strong foundation of the institution respectively.

The university color is radiated in the entire logo with the use of grays as major color component and some maroon.

At the center of the logo is a Torch, highlighted by the flame in the form of SorSU – the institution’s acronym which signifies SorSU’s goal to enlighten its clientele through education, and provide hope, and wisdom. In the torch handle are another two major components: The Map of Sorsogon, to show where the four campuses of SorSU are located; and the Ionic column, which symbolizes the School of Graduate Studies as being one of the pillars of SorSU with the program Doctor of Philosophy major in Public Administration being offered during the conversion of the college into a university.

The Sun and its rays radiating behind the flame is a light gray-yellow to medium yellow stream, symbolizing the new thoughts and the clear Vision, Mission, Goals, Objective, Quality Policy, and Character of Sorsogon State University. It has nine (9) rays which represents the Philippine Association of State Colleges and Universities (PASUC) members in the Bicol region namely: Sorsogon State University (SorSU); Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT); Catanduanes State University (CatSU); Bicol University (BU); Partido State University (ParSU); Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA); Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC); Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST); and Camarines Norte State College (CNSC). Behind the Sun rays are six (6) maroon ray-like stripes which represents the entire Bicol region for which the university will basically cater, specifically the provinces of Sorsogon, Masbate, Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte.

The entirety of the institution’s ultimate goals is signified by the light gray and maroon Book, also at the center of the logo, which signifies the never-ending quest of Sorsogon State University’s thrust to provide quality education; and come up with excellent research, extension, and production. In the lower middle-half of the logo, beside the torch are the symbols of the four (4) campuses of Sorsogon State University: the Computer and Profit Arrow represents ICT and business courses being offered at Bulan campus; the Building, Feather, and Gear represents the Engineering, Architecture, Education, and Technology courses being offered at Sorsogon City campus; the bundle of Rice represents the Agricultural courses being offered at Castilla campus; and the Fish represents the Fisheries courses being offered at Magallanes campus. This lower portion is enclosed by a Gear which symbolizes cooperation, determination, progress, and power. The inner gear represents the existing departments of the university, while its complementary outer gear represents the other departments that the university may create in the coming years to complete its mandate as per Republic Act 11088, the law signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte last October 11, 2018 converting Sorsogon State College (SSC) into Sorsogon State University (SorSU).
