SorSU Castilla Campus Community spearheads two-day Banyuhay 2.0 in Donsol, Sorsogon

Centered on the theme, “Leading with Equality: Building a Resilient Workforce of Castilla Campus for a Sustainable Future,” Sorsogon State University – Castilla Campus, under the leadership of Prof. Andrew F. Detera (Campus Director, SorSU-CC), engaged its faculty members, administrative officials, and non-teaching personnel in a two-day Banyuhay 2.0 with the aim to provide transformative experience unifying the entire SorSU-Castilla Campus community, held from March 25-26, 2024, at the Amor Farm Beach Resort, Donsol, Sorsogon.

The two-day event commenced with welcome remarks from Prof. Andrew F. Detera (Campus Director, SorSU-CC). SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, likewise graced the activity and delivered a message to the SorSU-CC employees/participants.

SorSU President De Jesus remarked, “What I wished to emphasize is that because we educate young Sorsoguenos to become agriculturists, we have to bring in the best people. This is the essence of banyuhay – metamorphosis – we have to change as professionals and as an institution before we can effectively accomplish our goals of positively influencing the lives of our students and, as a result, facilitating the development of their communities. I hope that in this activity that begins today, your cohesion and dynamics as a team even become stronger and directed towards the achievement of our collective goals.”

The morning session of Day 1 focused on the presentation of logistical insights and House Rules, event’s objectives, and overview of the day’s agenda which were enthusiastically delivered by Ms. Vergie Nolial (SorSU Castilla Admissions & Guidance Office), Prof. Sheryl A. Gregory and Mr. Albert Acuna (SorSu Castilla GAD Coordinator), respectively. Also included in the morning activities were sessions on Financial Management/Literacy Investment/Debt Management by Ms. Rica A. Mirandilla and Stress Management by Ms. Mary Ann J. Jintalan, RGC (SorSU Guidance Councilor I).

The afternoon session highlighted the various goals and expectations for Research, Instruction, and Extension as presented by Dr. Rochele N. Aragon (Dean, College of Agriculture), Mr. Brian Gabriel J. Buenaobra (Research & Development Coordinator), and Ms. Ira M. Habla (Research & Extension Coordinator). Likewise, it also included team-building activities and recreational time (pampering and group sharing), as well as an evening event which featured Solidarity Night and Mr. & Ms. Banyuhay.

Further, Day 2 of Banyuhay 2.0 began with an enthusiastic wellness activity (Zumba) led by PE Instructors and joined by the participants, as well as recreational activities such as water adventure and varied games. On the other hand, the afternoon event centered on the discussion of vital administrative matters such as the Annual Operational Plan (AOP), Action Plan, Individual Performance Commitment and Review (IPCR), and the Procurement Program and Management Plan (PPMP) as discussed by Ms. Rosalie B. Gabito (SorSU Castilla – Registrar).

These topics, emphasized by Prof. Detera (SorSU Castilla Campus Director), are relevant and important in the campus’ operations and the achievement of institutional goals. The 2-day activity concluded with a closing message from Dr. Aragon (Dean-College of Agriculture) who extended her appreciation to all individuals who have been instrumental in the success of Banyuhay 2.0.
