Sorsogon State University (SorSU) SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, attended the ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth, The Culmination, which was spearheaded by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office V (CHED ROV) today, November 13, 2023, at The Pepperland Hotel, Legazpi City, Albay.
The culmination program commenced with welcome remarks/rationale of the event from Atty. Septon A. De La Cruz, CESO III (Regional Director, CHED ROV). With the theme: Celebrating Feats… Experiencing ASEAN 2023: The Region V Story, the event highlighted the presentation of awards and dynamic performances from the winners of the ASEAN Voice: 2023 Regional Spoken Word Competition.
Meanwhile, Ms. Leciel Ramos (International Affairs Coordinator, BISCAAST), in lieu of SUC President II, Dr. Alex H. Navarroza, provided a message on Celebrating ASEAN in SUCs. Moreover, the activity also featured the awarding of prizes for the Battle of GADvocates: The Regional ASEAN Super Quiz Bee as well as the Awarding of Region V HEI’s Best Practices on International Academic Mobility Programs.
Further, Dr. Jovert M. Ofracio (President, Ligao Community College & President, ALCU V) shared insights regarding ASEAN Celebrations in HEIs. The event concluded with the Word of Thanks/Ways Forward from Dr. Pamela Sorra-Vinas (Education Supervisor II & Focal, ASEAN 2023). Adding a touch of cultural flair to the culmination program, Sorsogon State University Dance Troupe also performed in the event, including the ASEAN Dance.
SorSU continues to take a proactive role in regional and national affairs and events, such as the ASEAN Matters, that contribute to the broader ASEAN narrative, cultural exchange, and celebration, as well as promote collaborations across geographical boundaries. (SorSU PIO)
