SorSU undergoes CHED RQAT program assessment for proposed BS Nursing

In accordance with CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 15, s. 2017 and No. 19, s. 2022, Sorsogon State University (SorSU) underwent CHED Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) visit for its proposed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program under the College of Sciences today April 23, 2024, at the SorSU Science Integrated Laboratory – 2nd Floor, Sorsogon City Campus.

Led by Dr. Ma. Pamela Sorra-Vinas (Education Supervisor II, CHED ROV) and Dr. Mary Joy B. Sande (RQAT Member), the CHED RQAT visit formally began with opening remarks from Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus), expressing his warm welcome to the RQAT Team on behalf of the institution.

Dr. Escoto added, “The introduction of the BS Nursing represents a significant milestone for the institution to contribute to the community demand for competent professionals in this field. Our BS Nursing program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education that integrates general and professional education that will prepare them with specific knowledge and skills needed for Nursing practices.
On behalf of Sorsogon State University, we greatly appreciate the RQAT Team’s expertise, insights, recommendations, and constructive feedback because we believe that the team will help us identify the areas of our strength and areas that we must improve to further enhance our BS Nursing.”

Meanwhile, the Statement of the Purpose was delivered by Dr. Mary Joy B. Sande (RQAT Member), highlighting in her message that the CHED RQAT Team’s mission is to uphold the highest standard of excellence in Nursing education through rigorous quality assessment practices.
“By meticulously evaluating curriculum effectiveness, faculty performance, and student output, we are dedicated to [ensuring] that the College of Nursing will deliver quality education… Our relentless pursuit of excellence in quality assessment reflects our unwavering commitment to advancing the learning profession in preparing future generations of compassionate and competent healthcare professionals.”

The CHED RQAT visit focused on comprehensive document reviews and assessments of various areas as well as an ocular inspection of the University library and skills laboratories of the program.

Following the program evaluation conducted by the esteemed CHED RQAT Team, Dr. Sande and Dr. Sorra-Vinas presented their valuable recommendations and feedback during the exit conference activity. Relatively, SorSU has been given a fifteen-day period to address the RQAT Team’s observations and fulfill the necessary documentary requirements, allowing the institution to further enhance its compliance and strive toward continuous improvement and the highest standards of excellence.
