Established to honor and recognize the unwavering commitment, exemplary service, and invaluable achievements of the University’s diverse stakeholders, particularly its distinguished SorSU alumni, employees, retirees, partner companies, and partner LGUs, Sorsogon State University successfully celebrated its second SorSU Gawad Parangal, a university-wide awards night, last May 22, 2024, at the Sorsogon Convention Center, Sorsogon City Campus.
The awards night formally began with the entrance of SorSU employees and key officials, alongside the University’s esteemed guests and stakeholders.
SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, in her State of the University Address, presented the institution’s recent accomplishments and advancement undertakings including the seven (7) research centers across campuses highlighting their respective fields of expertise; the successful four-day SEAMREEC 2023; student internship/on-the-job training/practice teaching such as the 10 fourth-year BSED-English students who completed their two-week practice teaching in An Giang University in Vietnam; various research and extension initiatives, institutional linkages, a total of 34 ongoing infrastructure projects, internationalization endeavors, student activities, faculty and development, benchmarking, curriculum development, benchmarking visits, and series of successful accreditation surveys, curriculum enhancements, four new BOR-approved program offerings, proactive preparations for application to Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars Rating, and other institution’s undertakings.
“I want to stress the fact that without your whole-hearted and selfless commitment and active involvement in our administration, we will not realize our collective vision of transforming and elevating our university into a Pamantasang May Puso. With your highly visible accomplishments, we can say that empowerment is well-justified and very effective. As it is, public opinion and professional appraisal of our institutional image and performance is significantly positive and still continuously improving. Thanks to you, we are reaching new heights by achieving what we can only dream and hope for in the past.”
Notably, SorSU Gawad Parangal’s highlight was the Awarding of Plaques of Recognition to Distinguished Alumni, Partner Companies and Stakeholders, Retirees 2023 and Midyear 2024, as well as the Research, Extension and Training Awards. This was facilitated by Atty. Septon A. De La Cruz (Regional Director, CHED ROV); SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus; Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs); Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension and Training); and Mr. Gerald E. Fulay (Vice President for Administration and Finance).
Further, officiated by SorSU President De Jesus and witnessed by Atty. Septon A. De La Cruz (Regional Director, CHED ROV), the newly appointed and promoted SorSU employees likewise took their oath of office in the event, respectively.
In addition, the welcome remarks was delivered by Mr. Gerald E. Fulay (Vice President for Administration and Finance), whereas Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension and Training) gave the closing message. (SorSU PIO)
