To offer a comprehensive overview of the campus policies, services, and resources, the College of Engineering and Architecture held its student orientation for freshmen students on August 21, 2024 during the afternoon session, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall.
The event commenced with a welcoming message from SorSU Sorsogon City Campus Director, Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto who emphasized important rules, including wearing proper uniform, maintaining campus cleanliness, and showing respect to the campus employees. This was followed by inspirational messages from SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort.
The orientation proceeded with the presentation of the College of Engineering and Architecture staff, where Engr. Jerry Jake June Hayagan took the stage to introduce the dean, program chairs, faculty members, and non-teaching personnel. Furthermore, the dean of CoEA, Engr. Rufo D. Durian III, also delivered a speech, emphasizing that students should approach their studies with the aim of learning rather than just passing, and underscoring the goal of producing quality graduates.
The orientation also featured an overview of the Office of the Students Development and Services, presented by Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque, OSDS Director. Following this, representatives from various university offices also provided essential information about the services, resources, and extracurricular activities available to students, presented in a series of slideshows and videos.
In her inspirational message, Dr. De Jesus highlighted the university’s commitment to delivering quality education. According to her, “In the heart of all this, you, our iskolar ng bayan, are the highest priority since our Pamantasan exist and continues to seek improvement to provide you state of the art education to address professional and industrial demands relevant to our fast evolving world.”
Moreover, exchange students from Kien Giang University in Vietnam were also acknowledged by Dr. De Jesus and were invited to share a brief message to the audience. To conclude the event, an open forum was conducted, allowing students to ask questions and express their concerns.
The CoEA Students Orientation is part of the two-day event designed to assist first year students from all colleges in navigating the campus community.
