With the intent of equipping and empowering thesis and dissertation advisers toward quality research outputs, the Sorsogon State University – Graduate School, under the leadership of Dr. Susan S. Janer, successfully spearheaded its two-day event titled, “𝙎𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧 𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙨 & 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 & 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙣𝙜” from August 17-18, 2023, at the SorSU University Library, Sorsogon City Campus.
SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, also graced the seminar, where she provided the welcome address to the attendees. After the welcome remarks were the presentation of participants and speakers delivered by Dr. Sherill A. Gilbas (Professor VI and Head, Admission Services) and Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Professor V and VPRET), respectively.
Meanwhile, Dr. Paolo Niño Valdez, a Full Professor V from De La Salle University, Manila, engaged the participants with the following discussions on Topic 1: Choosing a research topic; Topic 2: Guiding your advisee through his/her research; Topic 3: Reviewing and critiquing the thesis/dissertation; and Topic 4: Preparing for an oral defense.
On the other hand, the morning session of the Day 2 began with a recapitulation of several topics by selected participants, which were previously addressed and explored on the Day 1 of the event. Then, it was followed by another presentation by Dr. Paolo Niño Valdez (Full Professor V, De La Salle University, Manila) on Topic 5: Thesis/dissertation advisor-advisee relationship.
Further, the afternoon activity focused on talk sessions along Topic 7: Publication and Reference Managing by Dr. Richard V. Dumilag (Full Professor II, Sorsogon State University) and proceeded with the discussion of Dr. Sherill A. Gilbas (Professor VI, Sorsogon State University) regarding Topic 8: Turnitin, whereas Topic 9: Current policies and practices of the Graduate School on Thesis/Dissertation Advising and Critiquing was presented by Dr. Susan S. Janer (Dean, Graduate School).
Dr. Ritzelda A. Deri (GS Student Development Services Coordinator) gave the closing remarks of the event after the participants shared their key takeaways and insights from the seminar. A total of 89 professors/instructors/teachers (62 internal and 27 external participants) participated in the two-day event of SorSU Graduate School. (SorSU PIO)
