Continuing its journey towards sustained progress and academic excellence, Sorsogon State University – Bulan Campus presented two of its curricular programs, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and the Bachelor in Public Administration, for evaluation in the Third Survey Phase 1 Visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP). Taking place from August 14 to 18, 2023, this virtual accreditation event aimed to uphold and assess the university’s commitment to quality education.
Leading this virtual accreditation was Dr. Ronnie N. Parica of the University of Rizal System, serving as the Over-all Coordinator and Team Leader for the Bachelor in Public Administration program. Joining him in this significant evaluation were Dr. Gerald G. Gutierrez of Marinduque State College, who contributed his expertise to the evaluation of the aforementioned program. For the evaluation of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, the team was spearheaded by Dr. Alma Jean Subong of West Visayas State University, together with Dr. Marie Joy B. Alit from Cebu Technological University. Additionally, Prof. Julius T. Bacatan from Jose Rizal Memorial State University assessed the library services.
The comprehensive evaluation encompassed ten areas: vision and mission, faculty, curriculum and instruction, support to students, research, extension, library, physical facilities, laboratories, and administration. Commencing on August 14th with an opening program, the accreditors embarked on an extensive review of the documentation presented by the local task force. Notably, they engaged in informative interviews with key stakeholders, including students, parents, faculty, alumni, industry partners, and beneficiaries of the university’s extension programs. A faculty member from the Bachelor in Public Administration also conducted a teaching demonstration.
A highlight of the evaluation was the recognition given on the campus and its programs for its active industry connections. The existence of active international collaborations and productive partnerships with local government units was commended by the accreditors. Furthermore, the alumni representatives were praised for showcasing the essential skills that equip them for global competitiveness.
The virtual setting also facilitated a campus tour on August 17th, allowing the accreditors to virtually explore the physical facilities and the enriching environment that SorSU-Bulan Campus offers.
During the closing program on August 18, Dr. Parica conveyed his gratitude for the cooperation extended by the local task force. He acknowledged their swift responses and their diligent adherence to document submission and survey requirements. Prof. Ma. Elena C.
