In celebration of the 2023 Development Policy Research Month (DPRM), the SorSU Graduate School Policy Research Center hosted a Seminar on selected Methods for Policy Research on September 16, 2023 at the Audio Visual Building with the theme: “Going Green and Digital for a More Sustainable, Inclusive, and Prosperous Future for All”. This was spearheaded by Dr. Gerry S. Digo, Head of Policy Research Center. This seminar aims to empower graduate students by equipping graduate students with state-of-the-art policy research methodologies, allowing them to excel in their academic pursuits.
The event started with an invocation and singing of the national anthem. Dr. Susan S. Janer, Dean of Graduate School, welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of the session. It was attended by 128 graduate school students from different programs. 55 of which were MED-EM students, 26 MAED-English students, 5 MAED-Filipino students, 5 MAED-Science students, 8 MAT-THE students, 6 MAT-TE-AT students, 2 MAM-PA students, 3 PHD-MATHED students, 11 EDD-LM students, 6 DPA students, and 1 PHD-LE student.
The session then proceeded with informative presentations delivered by esteemed experts in their respective fields. The first presentation, titled “Understanding Regression Analysis” by Dr. Ritzelda A. Deri, Program Chair- MAED and PhD MathEd. Dr. Deri explained its significance in conducting a policy research using regression for data analysis. The participants showed their interest in the topic by raising their different questions to the discussant.
The presentation, titled “Case Studies: The Administrative Practitioner’s Golden Intellect” by Dr. Sherill A. Gilbas, Program Chair-PHD LE. Dr. Gilbas provided a comprehensive overview of the topic, highlighting the role of case study as a research method for policy research in providing solutions to current trends and issues. She delivered her discussion with an engaging activity that made the participants active in reciting and sharing their insights about the topic.
Dr. Gerry S. Digo was the last presenter with a topic on “The Potential of Participatory Action Research for Educational Policymakers”. Dr. Digo explained and reminded the graduate school students of the critical aspects of participatory action research and its practical application for policy research, action research thesis, and action research dissertation.
To conclude the seminar, impressions were given by Ms. Noemi Billones and Ms. Roselyn de los Reyes, MED EM students. The program was successfully ended with the singing of SorSU Hymn.
