To equip graduate students taking up 𝘋𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘈𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 (𝘋𝘗𝘈)/𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘫𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘈𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 (𝘔𝘈𝘔-𝘗𝘈) with up-to-date knowledge and insights on the best practices of selected local government units (LGUs) in the Sorsogon Province (Bulusan and Magallanes) and City Government of Naga as well as the Provincial Unit of Albay on Disaster Risk Response and Management, Sorsogon State University – Graduate School (SorSU-GS) students of the DPA Program, along with their subject “𝘚𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘜𝘳𝘣𝘢𝘯/𝘙𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘎𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦,” spearheaded and organized 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, held last July 30, 2023, at the SorSU – University Library, Sorsogon City Campus.
Bannering the theme: “𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘌𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘓𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘎𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦: 𝘏𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘵, 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦,” the face-to-face morning session commenced with the welcome remarks of Dr. Susan S. Janer (Dean, Graduate School) to the DPA/MAM-PA student-participants. It proceeded with the in-person discussion of Hon. Michael G. Guysayko (Municipal Mayor of Bulusan, Sorsogon Province) on the “𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐆𝐔-𝐁𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧”, whereas the “𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐆𝐔-𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬” was tackled by Hon. Maria Elena Ramona M. Ragrario (Municipal Mayor of Magallanes, Sorsogon Province).
On the other hand, the afternoon activity was composed of a hybrid setup, where the student-participants (gathered in the University Library) engaged in an online talk session with resource speakers via Zoom meeting. In lieu of Dr. Cedric D. Daep (Head, Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office), Mr. John Eugene Vincent Escobar (Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office) presented the “𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭”. Meanwhile, Hon. Ghiel “Oying” G. Rosales (Councilor, Naga City & Chairperson, Committee on Laws, Ordinances, and Reorganization; Environment and Energy; and Manpower, Livelihood and Cooperative Development) shared the “𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐚𝐠𝐚”.
Following every talk session was the Q&A portion, where attendees posed questions and clarifications to the resource speakers. In addition, impressions were also given by Ms. Apryll E. Ravago and Ms. Maria Angelica C. Muyna, both MAM-PA students, in which they shared their meaningful takeaways and learnings during the seminar.
The seminar was convened and organized by Dr. Errol De Castro (Head, Program and Institutional Accreditation) and Dr. Catherine A. De Castro (Faculty, DPA/MAM-PA Programs and Director, Planning Management) who also provided the closing remarks of the event.
