On March 25, 2024, Northwest Samar State University headed by Dr. Riz Rupert L. Ortiz (Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension) embarked on an educative benchmarking visit to Sorsogon State University in pursuit of enhancing its research and extension services and glean insights from SorSU’s best practices.
The event commenced with welcome remarks by the Campus Director of Sorsogon State University-Sorsogon City, Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto. Following this, the delegates were shown an audio-visual presentation of the impressive accomplishments of the university and SorSU’s Research, Extension and Training (RET) as well.
SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, took the stage and expressed her joy that NWSSU visited SorSU. She proudly highlighted SorSU’s notable achievement of clinching the top spot among the State Universities & Colleges (SUCs) in the Bicol region, in the ranking evaluation conducted by EduRank.
During the benchmarking activity, Dr. Catherine A. De Castro (Director, Planning and Development) delivered a comprehensive presentation, shedding light on SorSU Future’s Thinking diverse programs and innovative initiatives while Prof. Christine H. Ferolino (Director, Research and Development) presented SorSU FT Research Projects. Dr. Ana Cristina G. Fortes (Director, Extension and Training) on the other hand, illuminated the meeting by spotlighting the successful extension projects spearheaded by the RET. Their enthusiasm in sharing their successful strategies was perceptible, reflecting their commitment to advancing research and excellence.
Included in the activity was an open forum facilitated by Engr. Ivy Rose B. Gonzales (Head, Intellectual Property & Technology Business Management Unit) which set the tone for an engaging exchange of ideas. The open forum provided a platform for interactive discussions on how to navigate through the challenges of research and extension.
Dr. Riz Rupert L. Ortiz extended heartfelt gratitude to SorSU for the warm reception and invaluable insights shared during the benchmarking visit. Such collaborative endeavor serves as catalyst for continuous improvement in research and fosters a culture of knowledge exchange.
