The Sorsogon State University – Scholarship and Financial Assistance Services Unit (SorSU-SFASU), under the Office of the Students Development and Services (OSDS), successfully facilitated the distribution of stipends for the Tulong-Dunong Program for State Universities and Colleges (TDP-SUCs) to eligible SorSU students across all four campuses held on July 17, 2024, at the Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.
Advocating for quality education, Hon. Loren B. Legarda (Senate President Pro Tempore) demonstrated her commitment to advancing education through her Tulong-Dunong Program for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), which provided significant support to students at Sorsogon State University by allocating 1 million pesos to scholarship recipients.
In a ceremonial event, a total of 135 scholars (22 from Bulan; 16 from Castilla; 7 from Magallanes; and 90 from Sorsogon City) were each granted 7,500 pesos as one-time financial assistance for the second semester of the academic year 2023-2024.
In her welcome message, Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque (Director, Student Development & Services), emphasized the importance of gratefulness, kindness, and accountability to the people.
Steadfast in her commitment to education, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus has consistently advocated for sufficient funding for the institution, ensuring that deserving students benefit from programs like CHED’s Tulong Dunong. She remarked, “Our government enacted free higher education and supported it with various scholarship and financial assistance programs that will ensure that deserving students will get enough support for their studies. And with this golden opportunity, I advise you not to waste it. With the Tulong Dunong Program, we hope that you appreciate the privileges that you have and use them to your best advantage.”
Addressing the Tulong Dunong Program recipients, the University President not only extended congratulations to the scholars but also encouraged them to pay forward the support they received by positively impacting the lives of others. The event culminated with closing remarks from Ms. Marinel D. Soriano (Head, SFASU). (SorSU PIO)
