Sorsogon State University (SorSU) Castilla Campus celebrated a momentous academic milestone last June 14, 2024 with the inaugural joint evaluation conducted by the Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Quality Assessment Team Region V (RQAT) for the proposed Bachelor of Agricultural Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) program.
Held at the Farmers Training Center of SorSU Castilla, the evaluation marked a significant advancement in the university’s educational endeavors. The proceedings commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort, Vice President for Academic Affairs at SorSU, who expressed sincere appreciation to the panel of evaluators for their dedication and expertise in assessing the BSABE program. Dr. Ricafort emphasized that after 15 years of concerted efforts, the BSABE program was on the brink of realization at SorSU Castilla.
Following Dr. Ricafort, Dr. Rochele N. Aragon, Dean of the College of Agriculture, introduced the local campus officials, unit heads, and coordinators of SorSU Castilla.
Dr. Gerry Buenavente, Education Supervisor II from CHED Region V, introduced his esteemed colleague, Dr. Mafe L. Pesino from the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), and acknowledged Ms. Clarizze Aquino from OPSD, whose virtual participation via Zoom enriched the evaluation proceedings. Dr. Buenavente delivered a detailed statement on the objectives and significance of evaluating the BSABE program.
Following the introductions, Dr. Pesino and Dr. Buenavente meticulously conducted the evaluation, which included an extensive campus tour to assess facilities and resources vital for the program’s implementation.
Upon conclusion of the evaluation, Dr. Pesino and Dr. Buenavente conveyed their heartfelt appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by SorSU Castilla. Dr. Pesino succinctly summarized the evaluation report.
Prof. Andrew F. Detera, SorSU Castilla Campus Director, delivered the closing remarks, acknowledging the dedication of all committees involved in ensuring the success of the evaluation process and expressing gratitude to the evaluators for their valuable insights. Prof. Detera underscored the significance of the BSABE program, noting that after many years of anticipation, the dream of offering it at SorSU Castilla is now becoming a reality.
In a symbolic gesture to mark the occasion, Dr. Buenavente and Dr. Pesino had the the ceremonial planting of the Pili tree, signifying growth and sustainability for the future of the BSABE program at SorSU Castilla. (Sorsogon State University-Castilla Campus)
