On June 27, 2024, Sorsogon State University marked its 31st Commencement Exercises at the Sorsogon Convention Center, Sorsogon City, embracing the theme “Exemplifying Professionalism and Versatility in an Era of Connectivity: A Challenge to the Graduates”. This event honored the achievements of the graduates from the College of Engineering and Architecture, alongside those from the Magallanes Campus.
The ceremony commenced with a processional of graduating candidates, accompanied by their parents, esteemed faculty, university officials, the distinguished guest speaker, and the university president. After the marching band’s overture, Prof. Lynn C. Mendoza (Campus Director, Magallanes Campus) and Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus) presented and certified the graduation candidates. Following this, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, conferred degrees upon the graduates.
This year, a total of 273 students completed their studies in various fields for the school year 2023-2024. Among them, 34 earned their Bachelor of Science in Architecture, 89 in Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE), 55 in Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), 40 in Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), and 55 in Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at the Magallanes Campus.
Hon. Raul Angelo “Jil” D. Bongalon (Congressman, AKO BIKOL Party List, House of Representatives), in his commencement address, said, “The ability to adapt and thrive in this rapidly challenging environment will define your success. Remember that professionalism and versatility go hand in hand. Professionalism encompasses not only your expertise and knowledge but also your integrity, ethics, and commitment to excellence. Strive to be leaders and be open to new ideas.” Furthermore, he encouraged the graduates to embrace challenges because they are growth opportunities.
Dr. De Jesus, with the assistance of Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs), awarded medals to honor students. Notably, Noella H. Dogayo, who bagged the highest General Weighted Average (GWA) among the graduates, delivered words of gratitude on behalf of the class of 2024. Diplomas were then awarded to the graduates by the President, Vice Presidents, Campus Directors, the University Registrar, and the Deans.
