These are the statements of SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, in her welcome remarks, as she emphasized to the participants that while research is not a perfect panacea, research provides an avenue to discover, innovate, address the challenges encountered in workplaces and the community — ultimately empowering people to contribute for the improvement of the Philippine society.

Moreover, an exemplary and accomplished researcher, Dr. Genaro V. Japos (Professor VI & Professorial Chair Holder for Business, Polytechnic University of the Philippines), delivered the keynote speech on Day 1 of the research event, where he engagingly discussed before the graduate school student attendees his conception of how research should be conducted effectively and efficiently in the graduate school and a university like SorSU.

Meanwhile, the two-day research colloquium comprises parallel sessions on the following four tracks: ‘Quantitative Research’, ‘Qualitative Research’, ‘Developmental Research’, and ‘Practice-based Research’.

Dr. Susan F. Astillero (GS Research & Publication Coordinator) presented the panel of evaluators of the 2-day research colloquium in four respective categories, namely: Dr. Rodel E. Pancho (Education Program Supervisor, School Division Office Sorsogon), Dr. Michael L. Estremera (Principal, Tugos Elementary School), & Dr. Michael M. Uy (Principal, Sorsogon National High School) for Quantitative Research; Dr. Joshua D. Oyon-oyon (Education Program Supervisor I, SDO, Masbate Province), Dr. Faithmarie M. Bachiller (Former Vice President for Academic Affairs, Bicol University), & Dr. Jean Carrol C. Antonio (Master Teacher I, Casiguran Vocational High School – SHS) for Qualitative Research; Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus (SUC President III, SorSU), Engr. Christopher O. Pacardo (Professor III, Bicol University), & Engr. Sandro B. Noguera (Senior Science Research Specialist and Provincial Director, DOST-PSTO Sorsogon) for Developmental Research; Dr. Jerry G. Fermanes (Education Program Supervisor in Mathematics of DepEd, School Division of Sorsogon Province), Dr. James Christian H. Nabong (Senior Education Program Specialist – Planning and Research, School Division of Sorsogon Province), & Dr. Michelle H. Guadamor (Education Program Supervisor in Mathematics of DepEd, School Division of Sorsogon Province) for Practice-Based Research (Action Research).

On the other hand, Dr. Gerry S. Digo (Program Chair, EdD-ELM, MEd-EM & MAM-AS) provided the guidelines for the paper presentation and the corresponding awards and prizes. The Best Paper Awards for each category (Quantitative, Qualitative, Developmental, and Practice-based Research) will receive a corresponding cash prize (1st Place Winner – PHP 5,000.00; 2nd Place Winner – PHP 3,000.00; and 3rd Place winner – PHP 1,500.00) as well as Certificates of Commendation, whereas Best Oral Presenters for each category will receive Certificate of Commendation for 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place Winners.
