To honor and commemorate the founding anniversary of the institution, dating back to SorSU’s history from its beginning as Sorsogon Trade School in 1907 to a full-fledged university in the present, the 𝘗𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘢𝘺 𝘗𝘶𝘴𝘰 is currently celebrating its university-wide 116th Foundation Anniversary, from May 24-26, 2023, at Sorsogon State University (SorSU), Sorsogon City Campus.
With the theme: “𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩, 𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮: 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙨, 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙨 𝙋𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙮 𝙋𝙪𝙨𝙤”, a university-wide parade around the city, joined by SorSU key officials, teaching & non-teaching personnel, athletes, and various student organizations from four campuses, commenced SorSU’s annual foundation anniversary celebration.
One of the highlights of this year’s celebration is the SorSU Games 2023 (SCUAA Selection Meet), consisting of various events and activities as well as sports competitions to be participated by SorSUeño athletes and students from four campuses, where winners will represent the University in the Bicol SCUAA 2023.
Following the grand parade was an opening program, in which “Hamos na SorSUeños”, the official soundtrack of SorSU Games 2023 composed by Prof. Marigrace D. Carretero, was sung by Rocel Navarro and Julius Lazaro and performed by TACSAKATE and DTCG members.

SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. Meanwhile, Campus Directors: Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Sorsogon City Campus), Prof. Ma. Elena C. Demdam (Bulan Campus), Prof. Andrew F. Detera (Castilla Campus), and Prof. Lynn C. Mendoza (Magallanes Campus) presented the respective athletes per campus.
In addition, Aldrin L. Esquipado (National SCUAA Medalist) led the ‘Lightning of Friendship Torch’ and ‘Oath of Amateurism’, while the opening of the sports games, headed by Prof. Oliver F. Garbin (Sports, Culture, and Arts – Head), officially began afterward.
