7 SorSU programs aim for AACCUP accreditation

The five-day 1st Survey Visit Online Program Accreditation, organized by the Office of the Quality Assurance under the leadership of Dr. Jenet B. Fuentes (Director, SorSU QA) and the Accreditation Task Force, kicked off today, October 7, 2024. This event, conducted by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), focuses on seven (7) programs at Sorsogon State University. The opening program was held in a hybrid format, with participants attending in person at the SorSU Board Room and online via Zoom.

The program commenced with welcome remarks from SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus. She expressed her deep appreciation to all those involved in the challenging but necessary preparations for this survey visit. In her message, she emphasized that the purpose of this survey is to improve the degree programs. She remarked that academic curricula, faculty, facilities, and delivery of these curricular offerings must be constantly enhanced and streamlined along modern global standards to ensure that students receive quality instruction.
Afterward, Dr. Leny D. Berdin (Chief Administrative Officer V), Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (VP for Academic Affairs), and Dr. Ryan V. Dio (VP for Research, Extension & Training) presented the university’s key officials and unit heads.


Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus) and Dr. Susan S. Janer (Dean, Graduate School) introduced the campus officials and the task force involved in the accreditation process. An audio-visual presentation by Instrumentos de Cordo highlighted the university’s strong commitment to the arts. Following this, Dr. Erwin D. Dumagpi (AACCUP, Inc. Coordinator Cluster 1) and Atty. Julie M. Binaldo-Velasco (AACCUP, Inc. Coordinator Cluster 2) outlined the survey visit’s objectives and purpose, ensuring that all participants understood the significance of the accreditation process. Additionally, Dr. Errol G. De Castro introduced the AACCUP panel, a group of esteemed experts who will conduct the assessment.


The five-day survey visit will focus on evaluating the following seven (7) academic programs: Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education, Doctor of Philosophy in Language Education, Master of Arts in Teaching, Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor in Culture and Arts Education, Bachelor of Special Needs Education and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.


The involvement of the accreditation working committees and other stakeholders, along with the structured approach of the survey visit, demonstrates Sorsogon State University’s unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in higher education. (SorSU PIO)
