Sorsogon State University (SorSU) together with University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) conducted its first in-person meeting today, January 25, 2024, at the SorSU Board Room in preparation for the upcoming 7th AgriMOVE (Materials of Value Essence) Symposium.
The 7th AgriMOVE Symposium is an activity of the UPLB- College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) in collaboration with SorSU, and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD). Moreover, this forthcoming symposium is an educational platform for the youth to develop an awareness of the significant role of agriculture in the country and to nurture their interest in agriculture, natural resources, and fisheries.
The UPLB delegates Dr. Lilia Fernando-Corpuz (Associate Dean for Research And Extension, UPLB-CAFS), Dr. Vito Butardo, Jr. (Lecturer at Swinburne University of Australia and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Balik Scientist Awardee), Dr. Arlan James Rodeo (Assistant Professor), Ms. Wendy Fernandez (Administrative Officer), and University Researchers Ms. Imelda Gesmundo, Ms. Maria Teofel Latayan, and Mr. John Julius Manuben visited the university and met with their committee counterparts from SorSU. Together, the two universities discussed plans, strategies, and other concerns regarding the symposium which shall be held at the SorSU Sorsogon City Campus in April 2024. During the meeting, the delegates were also serenaded by the ‘Himig SorSUeños’ before they proceeded to survey the venue and facilities of SorSU where the various activities and exhibits for the symposium will be located.
After the ocular, the visitors attended the “Plant Biotechnology for Grain Quality and Nutritional Improvement in Rice” activity which is another collaborative venture between the two universities held at SorSU-Castilla Campus, Farmers Training Center. The distinguished speaker for this event is DOST-Balik Scientist Dr. Vito Butardo Jr. who is affiliated with the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, Swinburne University of Technology at Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia.
