SorSU conducts orientation for first-year CoTEdM students

To ensure first-year CoTEdM students are well-acquainted with university policies, guidelines, and services, Sorsogon State University conducted a comprehensive orientation on August 21, 2024, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.

The event began with welcome remarks from Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus). This was followed by inspiring messages from SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, and Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs). In her message, President De Jesus urged the students to study hard and be the best versions of themselves.

Further, she said, “We hope your journey with our Pamantasang May Puso will lead you to worthwhile professions and productive lives in the future, and when you graduate, we hope that you will reflect the core values of our university in your person, family, and community. Accountability for all our decisions and actions. Resiliency in the face of challenges, and Trustworthiness in the service of the Filipino nation.”

Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia, Jr. (Dean, College of Teacher Education and Midwifery) introduced key officials and faculty members, giving students a clear picture of the university’s academic leadership and support network. Subsequently, Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque presented an overview of the Office of Student Development and Services.

The orientation continued with presentations from various university units, including the Health Services Unit, the Office of the Library, the Registrar’s Office, the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Services Unit, the Student Council Affairs Services Unit, the Food Services/Housing Services Unit, Guidance and Counseling Services Unit, Sports Unit, Safety and Security Services and Culture and Arts Services Unit. Each presentation aimed to familiarize students with the essential services offered by the university.

The program included intermission performances by the TAC-SaKaTe and the Dance Theater and Cultural Group. Afterward, students were provided information about SorSU DRRMO, ILDO/Career and Job Placement, and the Gender and Development Office.

The orientation wrapped up with an open forum, allowing students to ask questions and get clarifications about the university. (SorSU PIO)
