After the two-month summer vacation, the faculty members of the College of Information & Communications Technology (CICT) and the College of Business & Management Education (CBME) met this morning, August 15, at the Audio-Visual Room in preparation for the #BalikSorSU2024, the opening of classes for the First Semester of the Academic Year 2024 – 2025.
The instructors and professors convened upon the initiative of the campus administration to ensure that the faculty members are aware of various concerns and matters relevant to the new academic year.
A highlight of the activity was the presentation of the newly-hired faculty members of the two colleges and the announcement of change to permanent status of two instructors. The newly-hired instructors introduced themselves and expressed their commitment to and expectations with SorSU.
Prof. Ma. Elena C. Demdam, SorSU Bulan Campus Director, presided over the meeting. She started the discussions with the Green Campus Initiative of the University which seeks to ensure that all members of the academic community are involved in ensuring the environmental friendliness and sustainability in the campus. She also presented the plans for the opening of classes, the Welcome Day and the celebration of Buwan ng Wika.
The agenda also included the Faculty Workload and Teachers’ Program. The deans of the two colleges explained that the class programs, teachers’ programs and room utilization programs are now being finalized. Copies will be sent to the faculty members once they are completed. Meanwhile, the International Relations Office explained the visit of two student interns from Kien Giang University starting next week and encouraged the faculty members to promote the internationalization initiatives of the University among their students.
Likewise, policies on attendance, leave and proportional vacation compensation were also reiterated. Ms. Mary Joy P. Garbo, Administrative Officer V, also provided updates on the overload pay and salary increase. The financial status of the campus was also presented during the meeting, encouraging the faculty members to take their part in the cost-cutting initiatives of the University.
The Faculty Organization also presented a proposal for group life and health insurance for all employees. Finally, the current research and extension accomplishments of the two colleges were also presented by the respective coordinators.
Prof. Demdam ended the meeting with a resounding call for utmost commitment to serve the school and contribute to its achievements. She emphasized that professional dedication, honest service, and mutual respect are the vital ingredients for the success of the institution. (Sorsogon State University – Bulan Campus)
