Members of the Sorsogon State University (SorSU) Research and Extension Council (RECO) convened for the 3rd Quarter Evaluation meeting on September 26, 2024, at the Social Hall of the SorSU Bulan Campus.

The meeting began with the regular preliminaries, including the approval of the proposed agenda, the reading of the previous minutes, and discussions of matters arising from the last meeting. It was presided over by SorSU President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, accompanied by Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training) and Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs) as co-presiders.

Following this, the evaluation of Research and Extension Proposals commenced, with a total of 48 research proposals assessed, featuring proponents from the university’s four campuses. Additionally, eight Extension Proposals were presented, two of which were shared for informational purposes.

During the meeting’s health break, representatives from the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA)—Dr. Won-Tae Shin (Regional Project Manager of the MOF/PEMSEA ODA Project on Reducing Marine Plastics in the East Asian Seas Region), Mr. Kim Hungeun (Senior Manager), and Ms. Haidee Penero (Consultant)—visited SorSU Bulan Campus and met with SorSU executives. The visitors from South Korea were in Sorsogon to monitor the progress of the ‘Beach Monitoring on Marine Plastic/Litter in Bulan, Sorsogon’ program.

Furthermore, the research and extension proposals received comments, suggestions, and considerations from the members, resulting in a high percentage of items approved for funding and ready for project implementation. The series of presentations also highlighted SorSU’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating the university’s strong dedication to supporting the SDG targets.
