SorSU-GAD & OSDS host seminar on “Embracing Diversity and Fostering Inclusivity”

In celebration of the Annual Mental Health Month, the Office of Gender and Development (GAD), in collaboration with the Guidance and Counseling Services Unit, Career and Job Placement/ILDO Unit, and Peer Facilitators Organization, under the Office of the Student Development and Services (OSDS), hosted a seminar on October 18, 2024, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall. Themed ”Embracing Diversity and Fostering Inclusivity: SorSU’s Journey Towards a Safe Community and Gender-Sensitive Culture,” the event featured a series of lectures.

The seminar commenced with opening remarks by Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque (Director, OSDS). Prof. Abner L. Dellosa, RGC (Head, Human Resources Management and Development Office) kicked off the first lecture, focusing on “Thriving in the Workplace: Managing Stress, Separation Anxiety, and Relationship Dynamics for On-the-Job Training Student”. This was followed by Prof. Riche Justine Duran (Director, Gender and Development), who presented on the “Basics of SOGIESC” concerning RA 7877. Prof. Glady Joy M. Mella (GAD Coordinator, Sorsogon City Campus) talked on RA 11313. She stressed the importance of creating a protective environment against harassment and discrimination. Mr. Dexter Aurelio (ILDO Coordinator) concluded the morning session with closing remarks.


The afternoon session followed the same format as the morning, beginning with Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque’s (Director, OSDS) opening remarks. The same topics were covered, but Mr. Mikko S. Guardian, RGC, discussed “Thriving in the Workplace”, stepping in for Prof. Dellosa. The event wrapped up with closing remarks from Ms. Mary Ann J. Jintalan (Head, Guidance & Counseling Services Unit), urging participants to continue fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all. (SorSU PIO)
