With the goal to train, upskill, and reskill the faculty participants through the competent 2nd generation SorSU GEC trainers in the eight general education core courses, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), headed by Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs), spearheaded an online 𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘺 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘴 (𝘎𝘌𝘊) for newly-hired instructors and current faculty members today, August 24, 2023, via Zoom meeting.
Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia, Jr. (Dean, College of Teacher Education and Midwifery), in lieu of Dr. Ricafort (VPAA), provided the welcome remarks as well as mechanics and general orientation of the training-workshop. Dr. Garcia (Dean, CoTEdM) highlighted that the event is organized to provide an avenue to upskill those participants who have already been teaching GEC to further enhance their teaching performance. Moreover, it is also an opportunity to reskill those faculty who are about to teach GEC for the first time.
In accordance with CHED Memorandum Order No. 20, series of 2013, entitled: “𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘶𝘮: 𝘏𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴, 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴,” it intends to hone students holistically, which particularly targets competency-based outcomes: (1) intellectual competencies, (2) personal and civic responsibilities, (3) and practical skills, with the eight GE core courses, namely: Art Appreciation; Ethics; The Contemporary World; Life and Works of Rizal; Mathematics in the Modern World; Purposive Communication; Readings in Philippine History; Science, Technology, and Society; and Understanding the Self.
The virtual training-workshop consisted of breakout rooms per General Education subject, in which the participants were equipped with the contents of GE core courses, as well as teaching methods, strategies, and relevant activities. On the other hand, the participants were engaged in a workshop-presentation and/or assignment as required by their respective trainers in the afternoon session.
During the closing remarks, Dr. Errol G. De Castro (ICC, GEC In-charge and Head, Program & Institutional Accreditation) expressed his appreciation to the OVPAA for spearheading the virtual faculty training and to the 14 General Education trainers for sharing their expertise with the participants.
