With the goal to observe curricular, teaching and administrative practices, the Sorsogon State University Laboratory High School (SorSU-LHS) implemented the “Benchmarking for Long-term Advancement of Students and Teachers” (BLAST) initiative at selected academic institutions in Camarines Sur on March 23-25, 2023.
The BLAST is a benchmarking initiative of the SorSU Laboratory High School with the objective of looking into the curricular offerings and observing the operation management – system, and exemplary practices of selected institutions.
Eighteen (18) SorSU LHS faculty members under the leadership of SorSU-LHS Area Chairman Prof. Edna Marie L. Mijares – ventured to Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus at Goa, Camarines Sur, Ateneo de Naga University at Naga City, Camarines Sur and Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) located at Pili, Camarines Sur to conduct the objectives of the project.
During the 3-day benchmarking activity, the SorSU-LHS delegates engaged in meaningful interactions with the principals and head teachers of the target schools through focus group discussions regarding best practices on curricular offerings, students’ affairs and services, faculty, research and extension services. The SorSU-LHS also visited laboratories and other learning facilities and attended classroom observations throughout the activity.
The insights gained in the benchmarking shall be part of the guide for the SorSU LHS to further develop and enrich its policies/practices directed towards a future science-oriented high school. (SorSU PIO)
