The Cultural Center of the Philippines, in collaboration with the Sorsogon State University, hosted the National Rondalla Workshop 2024 on June 19-23, 2024 at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.
The event officially commenced with the rendition of the Philippine National Anthem and a Prayer conducted by the Himig SorSUenos and was subsequently followed by a message from Ms. Valine Mae Calmerin (Senior Culture and Arts Officer, Artist Training Division, Arts Education Department, CCP).
Various musical pieces were performed by different groups, including BARCAROLLE (SDO Sorsogon Province Rondalla); SERENADE (Sorsogon National High School SPA Rondalla); BOLERO (Pilar National Comprehensive High School Rondalla); EINE KLEINE NACHTMUSIK (Ligao National High School Rondalla); RONDO (Bulan National High School Rondalla); SUNFLOWER SLOW DRAG (Panabo City National High School Rondalla); PALLADIO (Cuerdas Danawin); PRELUDE ETNIKA (Nabua National High School SPA Rondalla); THEME FROM NEWYORK NEWYORK (Naga Central School 1 Rondalla); and SCHERZO GRAZIOSO (Regional Teachers Rondalla Bicol).
Following the presentations, Ms. Monique M. Pilapil (Project Manager, CCP National Rondalla Workshop 2024) provided an overview of the schedule and house rules. The National Rondalla Workshop 2024 commenced promptly thereafter, allowing the participants to learn musical techniques under expert guidance.
The workshop concluded on June 23, 2024, with a showcase of performances at the Sorsogon Cultural Center, Sorsogon City. The event received acclaim for its successful execution, with attendees significantly enhancing their skills in rondalla playing. (SorSU PIO)
