CHED ROV, OPSD conduct joint evaluation visit for COPC application of SorSU on proposed BS Nursing Program

Sorsogon State University (SorSU) underwent a joint CHED ROV and OPSD evaluation visit for its Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) application for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program pursuant to CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 15, s. 2017 and No. 19, s. 2022, conducted by the Commission on Higher Education – Regional Office V (CHED ROV), CHED – Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD), together with the CHED Technical Panel for Nursing, Technical Evaluators for Nursing, and the Regional Quality Assessment (RQAT) Team, on August 15, 2024, at the SorSU Boardroom, Sorsogon City Campus.

The esteemed panel of evaluators comprised Dr. Carmelita Divinagracia (Technical Panel for Nursing), Dr. Remedios Fernandez & Dr. Daisy Palompon (Technical Evaluators for Nursing), Dr. Mary Joy Sande (RQAT Member), Mr. John Paul Dela Cruz (Senior Program Specialist/CHED OPSD Representative), and Dr. Ma. Pamela Sorra-Vinas (CHEDRO V Education Supervisor II/In-Charge of the Nursing Program in Region V).
In his welcome remarks, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs) conveyed the institution’s profound gratitude to the technical evaluators, underscoring their pivotal role in assessing SorSU’s readiness to offer the BS Nursing program.


“This opportunity allows us to identify our strengths and areas for improvement across various evaluation criteria. We eagerly anticipate your insights to help us sustain our strengths and address any compliance issues through our strong collaboration and shared enthusiasm.”


Meanwhile, Dr. Carmelita Divinagracia (Technical Panel for Nursing) delivered the statement of purpose, where the technical panel indicated that along with the evaluation of the University’s work output, they will also be interviewing faculty members and the administration. Dr. Divinagracia added that they are likewise interested in how the faculty members conduct research initiatives, emphasizing that the future of Nursing is innovation — generating new models and strategies.


After a Rondalla performance by the SorSU – Instrumentos de Cordo, an audio-visual presentation of the BS Nursing Profile was showcased, featuring its competent faculty members, cutting-edge Nursing facilities and skills laboratories, as well as the SorSU’s state-of-the-art University Library, among other highlights.


The program evaluation covered comprehensive document reviews and assessments of various areas as well as site visits to the SorSU Nursing Arts Rooms for Simulation, lecture rooms at the Midwifery Building, skills laboratories at the Science Integrated Building, and an inspection of the University library. Atty. Septon A. De La Cruz (Regional Director, CHED ROV) also joined the evaluation team during the site visits.


Particularly, the team assessed 12 areas, to wit: (a) Board Resolution on the offering of the BS Nursing program; (b) Dean and/or Program Head; (c) Faculty Profile; (d) Library Resources and IT facilities; (e) Nursing Skills Laboratory; (f) Instructional Materials; (g) Student Services; (h) Research and Community Extension; and (i) Base Hospital and other required facilities for the BS program.


Further, the following University key officials and focal personnel also took part in the evaluation visit, namely, Dr. Jenet B. Fuentes (Director, Quality Assurance), Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque (Director, OSDS), Ms. Erlinda P. Enguerra (University Librarian), Mr. Robert J. Jamisola (Dean, BS Nursing Program), Nursing Program faculty members: Ms. Mary Anne Frances D. Reyes, Ms. Genevieve F. Roxas, Ms. Ma. Joahna D. Perdigon, Dr. Aaron A. Funa, Ms. Jerica D. Latonero, Mr. Jaymark Samson (Head, Program Development & Standards), Ms. Mary Ann J.
