With the mission to improve the socioeconomic conditions of the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized households and communities through sustainable livelihoods, the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Field Office V (DSWD-FO V) formally inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sorsogon State University (SorSU), alongside other Bicol SUCs, national government agencies, and private organizations, for the implementation of Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) on May 5, 2025, at the La Roca Veranda Suites and Restaurant, Legazpi City, Albay.
As a partner academe, SorSU shall provide technical education, capacity building, technical assistance, and other necessary livelihood interventions to SLP’s program participants; mobilize faculty-extension workers, subject matter experts (SMEs), or team of specialists to serve as resource persons/mentors/coaches in training; conduct necessary research activities on SLP projects; and other relevant functions and initiatives.
SLP is DSWD’s primary community-based livelihood program, offering capacity building to uplift the program participants’ socioeconomic status by equipping them with the necessary skills to pursue successful livelihoods. The SLP operates through two tracks: (1) Micro-enterprise Development (MD) Track, which focuses on supporting micro-enterprises to achieve economic viability; and (2) Employment Facilitation (EF) Track, which helps participants to access and secure suitable employment opportunities.
Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension and Training), together with Dr. Fely A. Habla (Head, Sorsogon Food Development Research Center), represented the University during the ceremonial MOU signing. (SorSU PIO)
