To further enhance the teaching performance of Sorsogon State University (SoRSU) faculty members, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) conducted online faculty training on General Education Courses (GEC) via Zoom today, January 26, 2023, for newly-hired faculty, as well as current instructors who have been teaching GEC or those who are about to teach GEC subjects for the first time this second semester.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort – VPAA, emphasized that the training-workshop is organized to equip the faculty participants with competencies in teaching GE core subjects in the following areas:
- Art Appreciation
- Ethics
- Contemporary World
- Life and Works of Rizal
- Mathematics in the Modern World
- Purposive Communication
- Readings in Philippine History
- Science, Technology and Society
- Understanding the Self
General Education Courses (GEC) is intended to develop students holistically, which specifically targets competency-based outcomes such as intellectual competencies, personal and civic responsibilities, and practical skills, pursuant to CHED Memorandum Order No. 20, series of 2013.
The training included teaching methods and strategies, as well as orientation with the contents of GE core courses that the participants are assigned to teach this semester. The afternoon session involved a workshop and/or assignment as required by respective trainers.
The training was attended by 14 competent GEC trainers and 51 participants. Dr. Errol G. De Castro, ICC-GEC in charge, gave the closing remarks. (SorSU PIO)
