Himig SorSUeños ventures on Choral Exchange Program titled “Echoes of Diversity”

The Sorsogon State University’s Himig SorSUeños, the singing ambassadors of the university, under the leadership of Choirmaster Prof. Edwin J. Balgemino, and with the support of SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, Campus Director Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto, and Sorsogon City Campus Coordinator for Culture and Arts Prof. Roy O. Jarlego, in partnership with the Diocese of Sorsogon through Rev. Fr. Ray Nonn Mallorca, Diocesan Director for Music Ministry, held a Choral Exchange Program titled “Echoes of Diversity” on June 1, 2024, in Barcelona, Sorsogon. This event marked the beginning of the university’s aim to foster a harmonious collaboration between Pamantasang may puso and the parishes of the province.

The event featured the participation of the Music Ministry of Saint Anthony de Padua Parish from Gubat, Sorsogon, and the Chou-Rag it Choir from Saint Joseph Parish of Barcelona, Sorsogon. Special thanks are extended to Msgr. Felix Eligado of Gubat, Sorsogon, and Rev. Fr. Vernon Zulueta of Barcelona St. Joseph Parish. With the support of their choirmasters, Prof. Evan Carlo Deblois and Mr. Carlo Estrabela, these choirs, along with our very own Himig SorSUeños, promoted social cohesion and inclusivity.

The choir workshops fostered a sense of belonging, pride, and ownership among participants. These workshops provided a platform for skill development and knowledge exchange. Through expert-led sessions, local choir members enhanced their vocal techniques, learned new repertoire, and gained insights into the nuances of choral performance. This educational aspect of the program contributed to the overall musical development of participants and promoted a culture of continuous learning within the community.

The initial part of the proposed Choral Exchange Extension Program in Sorsogon Province is a holistic initiative by the University and the Diocese of Sorsogon Province. It aims to enrich the cultural landscape, promote tourism, engage communities, and enhance the musical education of local choir members in the province. By fostering collaboration among choirs and showcasing the province’s cultural diversity through performances, the program is poised to make a lasting and positive impact on the artistic, social, and economic fabric of Sorsogon.
