To provide first-year graduate students with a comprehensive understanding of university policies, guidelines, and services, the Sorsogon State University – Graduate School (SorSU-GS) held an orientation session on August 17, 2024, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.
The session commenced with Dr. Ritzelda A. Deri (GS Coordinator, SDS, Program Chair, MAED & PhD MathEd), delivering welcome remarks to all attendees. Dr. Felisa D. Marbella (Program Chair, PhD Filipino) acknowledged the graduate students enrolled in each program. Following this, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (VP for Academic Affairs) delivered a message to the incoming GS students. Subsequently, Dr. Susan S. Janer (Dean, Graduate School) introduced the regular and part-time GS faculty members.
The orientation proceeded with a series of presentations from various university units, including Registration Services, Library Services, Health Services, Guidance and Counseling Services, Cost Recovery Courses, the Turnitin Similarity Report, Admission Requirements for the EdD ELM program, Publication Requirements for Graduation, Flexible Enrollment for Thesis Writing and Dissertation Writing (TW and DW), Residence Rules, and other Graduate School policies. These presentations were intended to acquaint students with the key services and resources provided by the university.
The orientation also featured an open forum moderated by Dr. Richard V. Dumilag (GS Faculty), followed by closing remarks from Dr. Gerry S. Digo, who offered concluding thoughts and encouragement to the new students. In the afternoon, the GS-SSG Officers (2021-2023) led by SSG President, Ms. Myrna D. Leoncito (MAM-PA), presented a video of the accomplishments of the outgoing officers.
Likewise, a key highlight of the orientation was the election of the new Graduate School – Supreme Student Government (SSG) Officers. Below are the newly elected GS-SSG officers for the 2024-2026 term:
