SORPPO commemorates 2024 National Women’s Month, SorSU President De Jesus as guest of honor and speaker

Recognized for her impactful contribution in the field of education, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, has received various invitations and accolades for her unparalleled service in the academe. As a sought-after keynote speaker, SorSU President De Jesus was invited as a guest of honor and speaker at the Sorsogon Police Provincial Office (SORPPO), Camp Salvador C. Escudero Sr., Sorsogon City on March 4, 2024 in celebration of the 2024 National Women’s Month.

Anchored on the sub-theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan Patunayan”, the celebration highlighted the active contribution of women in nation-building. It emphasized the accomplishments and recognition that Filipinas have achieved in Philippine society and even abroad. In her message, Dr. De Jesus said, in recent decades, women are becoming more visible in professions, workplaces and institutions that were previously exclusive for and dominated by men. In fact, there were now more female officers and personnel in our police force and even in the military compared with twenty years ago.

“In our university, the ratio of male and female students taking engineering, architecture, and other technological courses is already even. And when they graduate, they become part of our workforce in the national industries. Most of the staff, directors and administrative officials are also females — we recognize that their professional leadership and organizational skills are comparable and even at times exceed those of men.”

Being the second lady president and the first university president of the Pamantasang May Puso of the Sorsogon Province, she remarked, “We have already attained positions of leadership and high influence within our province and even the entire country. Two former Presidents of the Republic and several senators are women. In Sorsogon, the present congressional representative of the 1st district and several mayors are also women.” The rise of female leaders marks a significant stride in advancing equal rights. The society has made progress in gender equality because of the invaluable contribution of women who created an impetus for change. There has been an unprecedented evolution in political, social and economic landscape in our society because of the dynamic participation of women. Based on the belief that all people should enjoy equal rights and opportunities, SorSU President De Jesus remains committed to advancing women’s rights and expressed determination to continue the momentum of women empowerment to inspire the next generation of females.

The SorSU extends its utmost appreciation to PCOL Dionisio T. Laceda (Provincial Director of PNP Sorsogon), Lt.Col. Paz Magistrado (Deputy Provincial Director for Administration), Lt.Col. Noel Rinon (Deputy Provincial Director for Operations), Maj. Arwin Destacamento (Chief of Police Community Affairs and Development), Lt. Xynalyn Huerno (Chief of Women and Children Protection Desk), and the officers and personnel of the Sorsogon Police Provincial Office for supporting the 2024 National Women’s Month and for recognizing the exceptional women who broke glass ceilings and shattered stereotypes. On this women’s month, let us recommit ourselves to supporting equal opportunities for everyone to build a better community. Together, we can shape the future fairly and respectfully. (SorSU PIO)
