The Graduate Program of Sorsogon State University (SorSU) is in accordance with Republic Act 11088 which mandates the offering of graduate courses in the field of education and other fields as approved by the SorSU Board of Regents. Seeking to meet international standards of quality and excellence. The philosophy of Sorsogon State University Graduate School reflects the promotion of professional growth and development of individuals into politically matured, economically stable, socially and culturally progressive, morally and spiritually strong, and proud of their identity as Filipinos.

To translate this philosophy into tangible realities, the mission of Sorsogon State University Graduate School is to offer programs and services geared towards the advancement of knowledge, upgrading of skills and enhancement of values in terms of development of high level professionals who are research-oriented and who can provide leadership in various fields required by a dynamic, self-sustaining and globally- competitive society.

The accomplishment of Sorsogon State University Graduate School is ensured through the following: Quality and Excellence, that is the provision of graduate education which meets national as well as international standards as faculty. library and laboratory faculties, and other requirements; Relevance and Responsiveness, which is the provision of research and extension services for the acquisition and application of new knowledge which cater to the needs and demands of the service area and beyond; and Efficiency and Effectiveness, which is provision of information dissemination in education useful to students, educational leaders, business, industry and concerned citizens.

Course Offerings

DOCTORATE PROGRAMS

Doctor of Philosophy in Language Education

The program aims to prepare future researchers and leaders in the field of Language Education to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills in developing a firm and strong approach in the investigation of policies, issues and pedagogies in language learning and teaching. It further intends to produce applications of linguistics in the classroom and in multilingual education, to design programs appropriate to the contexts of varied language learners. (CMO. Doctor of Philosophy in Filipino

Ang programang ito ay nakadisenyo upang itaas ang totuong disiplinal-inter-multidisiplinari at kompetensis ng mga guro/instruktor na nagtuturo sa lebel ng elementarya, sekundarya at tersarya gayundin ang pagsulong ng wikang Filipino, pag-unawang kultural at pansining at mga gawaing pananaliksik sa wika, kultura at sining. Layunin din nito mahasa pang lalo ang kakayahan sa larang ng pananaliksik sa kanilang disiplina. (CMO. No. 53 s. 2007)

Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education

The program is designed to develop mathematics education in the Philippines by producing highly trained mathematics educators. It is a three (3)-year program designed for students who have already earned an accredited Masters Degree in mathematics. The program emphasizes research competencies and requires passing a comprehensive examination and a scholarly dissertation of intellectual merit and sound research methodology. (CMO. No. 53 s. 2007)

Doctor in Public Administration

The program aims to develop in students an expert level of theoretical knowledge and the competence and motivation to understand and solve different problems in the field of public administration. It also aims to produce graduates who have the competence to undertake advanced independent research in public administration and communicate the results and implications of the research to a diverse audience. Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Management

The program is designed for school leaders and managers in basic, technical-vocational, and higher education institutions. The program emphasizes high standard and advanced level of scholarly works in the pursuit of quality and excellence in education with the integration of practice-based research orientation which enables them to become positive change agents in the attainment of educational goals. MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMS

Master of Arts in Management major in Administration and Supervision

The program is intended to provide for the continuing education of administrators, teachers and other specialists in the various phases for the in-depth study of education itself and for the philosophy of organization, sociological, and psychological foundations of operations. Master of Arts in Management major in Public Administration

This is a graduate program intended to equip students and professionals with theoretical background and technical skills towards the development and advancement of an efficient, responsive, ethical, accountable, and transparent government and nonprofit administration. Master of Arts in Education major in English

These programs are mainly designed to uplift the competencies of teachers/instructors teaching in the elementary, secondary and tertiary levels. It also aims to develop them to undertake research in specific areas within the broad field of educational science and practice. Such programs shall focus on the replication, verification, validation, contextualization, and/or application of theoretical knowledge about the different aspects of the educational process. (CMO. Master of Arts in Education major in Filipino
