Sorsogon State University–Castilla Campus Forges Partnership for Sustainable Community Development; Inks MOA with Sto. Nino de Cebu Augustinian Foundation Inc.

In line with its continued commitment to promote service and collaboration toward sustainable community development through research, extension, and community-based initiatives, Sorsogon State University–Castilla Campus and the Sto. Nino de Cebu Augustinian Foundation Inc. (SNAF) formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on October 10, 2025, at the Audio-Visual Hall, Farmers Training Center, SorSU Castilla Campus.

The MOA establishes a cooperative framework between SorSU and SNAF for the implementation of the Capability Building Towards Community-Based Integrated Area Development (CBIAD) Program. The program aims to promote environmental stewardship and climate resilience, enhance local governance and community participation, and increase household income by 20% within four years through its components on Environmental Management and Climate Resilience and Livelihood and Economic Development.


The formal signing was led by Rev. Fr. Harold Langahin, OSA, Executive Director of SNAF, who described the occasion as “the first step of a long and sustaining journey,” expressing optimism that the partnership will continue to inspire and create meaningful impact within communities. Representing Sorsogon State University was Dr. Ryan V. Dio, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, who expressed sincere appreciation for SNAF’s trust and collaboration, emphasizing the University’s continuing mission to utilize education as a catalyst for social progress and environmental responsibility.


Distinguished guests who witnessed the event included Rev. Fr. John Ion Miranda, OSA, former SNAF Director and current Treasurer of the Filipino Augustinian Province of Sto. Nino de Cebu; Rev. Fr. Aladdin P. Luzon, OSA, Parochial Vicar of St. Augustine Parish in Cogon, Gubat, Sorsogon; and Mr. Edmundo Escueta, representative of the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) of St. Augustine Parish, Cogon, Gubat, Sorsogon.


The ceremonial program commenced with a welcome message delivered by Prof. Andrew F. Detera, Campus Director, who underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing education and promoting community development. This was followed by Mr. Al M. Alcantara, National Service Training Program (NSTP) Coordinator, who presented an overview of the agreement and its community-based framework.
Following the signing, the SNAF delegation was welcomed on a campus tour to observe the University’s initiatives in practical learning and sustainable practices. The visit concluded with a symbolic bamboo planting activity, led by Rev. Fr. Harold Langahin, OSA, and Dr. Cristy T. Jintalan, signifying cooperation and a shared commitment to environmental sustainability.


Through this partnership, Sorsogon State University–Castilla Campus and the Sto. Nino de Cebu Augustinian Foundation Inc. exemplify a unified pursuit of sustainable and inclusive community development, grounded in the shared values of education, faith, and service.
