The Sorsogon State University Supreme Student Council (SorSU-SSC), Sorsogon City Campus, in partnership with Sorsogon City Social Hygiene Clinic, SEMERS Sorsogon, Sorsogon City Campus Students, and SHIP Bicol organized “SSC CARES: HIV Awareness Seminar and Free HIV Screening” on February 17, 2025, at SorSU Audio-Visual Hall. This event was specifically designed to educate students about HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), aligning with the national efforts to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The seminar began with opening remarks from Mr. Kristopher Hiloma (Coordinator, Student Development Services) followed by Ms. Hilary Mae D. Belardo (SSC-SCC Treasurer) introducing the speaker. Mr. Renz Alvaro (Regional Program Officer, SHIP Bicol) gave an informative talk on HIV awareness, covering topics such as transmission, prevention, and treatment.

After the talk, a certificate and token of appreciation were awarded to Mr. Renz Alvaro. This was facilitated by Mr. Kristopher Hiloma, Prof. Jucelyn Bordeo (Adviser, SSC-SCC), and Shaquille O’neal P. Jeresano (President, SSC-SCC) who acknowledged the efforts of all individuals involved in organizing the event. The activity concluded with closing remarks from Carl Margelie H. Ducta (Vice President, SSC-SCC).

In addition to raising awareness, the seminar offered free HIV screening, allowing students to take proactive steps toward their health. The activity successfully promoted HIV/STI awareness and contributed to SGD No. 4, which focuses on quality education and health. (SorSU PIO)
