SorSU, along with UP; MSU-Naawan; ParSU; & UEP, signs Supplemental Agreement with CHED on CHED LAKAS Project: Phytochemical Characterization of Macroalgae for Food and High Value Products (PhycoPRO)

A Supplemental Agreement ceremonial signing between and among Sorsogon State University (SorSU) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), University of the Philippines (UP) as the Lead HEI, Mindanao State University – Naawan (MSU-Naawan), Partido State University (ParSU), and University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) took place last May 30, 2023, at the Commission on Higher Education Auditorium, Quezon City.

The supplemental agreement pertains to the special collaborative project for research and Higher Education Institution (HEI) capacity building, through the CHED, along with its Leading the Advancement of Knowledge in Agriculture and Sciences (LAKAS) Program, specifically 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐋𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐒 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭: “𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐠𝐚𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 (𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐜𝐨𝐏𝐑𝐎).”

A Research Funding Agreement (RFA) between and among CHED and collaborating HEIs, the CHED LAKAS 2021-035: Phytochemical Characterization of Macroalgae for Food and High-Value Products (PhycoPRO), has been approved by the CHED for funding and implementation per CEB Resolution No. 294-2022 dated June 07, 2022.

Relatively, PhycoPRO envisions enhancing the status of the seaweed industry in the Philippines by providing critical knowledge through a comprehensive phytochemical characterization of seaweeds to identify species with higher economic potential and pinpoint locations where their growth will be maximal.

Headed by Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera (Chairman, CHED) and other CHED top management, the event was attended by SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, and Dr. Richard V. Dumilag (Magallanes Campus-Associate Professor V and SorSU PhycoPRO Project Collaborator), together with other collaborating HEI Presidents, Chancellors, Project Leaders, & Project Collaborators.
