On September 29, 2025, Sorsogon State University (SorSU) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Prieto Diaz signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the Municipal Hall, Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon, formalizing their partnership to support Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) initiatives in the local community.
The signing ceremony started with the acknowledgment of participants, followed by the presentation and reading of the MOA by Mr. Rafael Ryan Bayoca (LDRRMO Head, Municipality of Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon). Meanwhile, Prof. Saturnino C. Carranza (Director, SorSU DRR & CC/DRRMO) discussed the rationale for the partnership, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to address risks and build the capacity of communities to prepare for and respond to emergencies.
SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, signed the agreement on behalf of Sorsogon State University, while Hon. Avon D. Domalaon (Municipal Vice-Mayor) signed for the LGU of Prieto Diaz. In their messages, both expressed support for the partnership and highlighted the importance of coordinated action between the academic sector and local government in reducing disaster risks and improving response efforts. The ceremony ended with closing remarks from Hon. Avon D. Domalaon.
Through this agreement, SorSU and the LGU will jointly implement risk assessments and capacity-building activities aimed at enhancing the disaster preparedness and response capabilities of the local community. (SorSU PIO)
