Sorsogon State University (SorSU) and Partido State University (ParSU) conducted a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on collaboration and development of joint researches specifically in the field of climate resilience, marine biology, marine science, and fisheries at the University of the Philippines.
Aside from sharing of expertise, the partner institutions will pursue research publication along with generation of technologies related to the studies.
On its official Facebook page, the ParSU Conservation and Restoration Ecology (CARE) Laboratory shared that “We are confident that our joint studies will bring about a significant impact, especially in marine-centered studies, where the Bicol region has proven research potential. Our MOU marks a pivotal step towards conducting joint studies ranging from biodiversity assessment, species identification and characterization, distribution model and mapping, socio-cultural studies, and biogeography mapping.”
SorSU was represented by Dr. Richard V. Dumilag, a seasoned researcher and Professor of the SorSU Graduate School who will work alongside partner individuals namely Dr. Michael A. Clores, research associates Eljenmer Sindo, and Elluna Bigcas of the ParSU, all who are currently involved in the “Phytochemical Characterization of Macroalgae for Food and High-Value Products” a CHED LAKAS-funded project.
