Sorsogon State University third-year Bachelor of Science in Architecture student, Mr. Justin R. Golloso, won Runner Up at the Vision Petron National Student Art Competition 2022 announced during the Vision Petron 2022 Awards last April 28, 2023.
Over hundreds of artworks from 39 State Universities and Colleges across the Philippines were received by Vision Petron having three categories in its competition such as (1) oil/acrylic painting, (2) watercolor/water-based media, and (3) digital art. Golloso entered the Watercolor/water-based media category and submitted his masterpiece titled “𝙎𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙧𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙏𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙨” (An art depicting the perseverance of a student to hold a firm grip on his dreams despite the many changing challenges of the times.) which won him the Runner Up spot in the competition. Aside from placing as Runner up, Golloso is also the 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝘽𝙞𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙤𝙧𝙎𝙐 𝙞𝙣 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙚𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 2022.
Part of the mechanics of the event was to base the artworks on the centralized theme of “𝘗𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘱 𝘴𝘢 𝘒𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘶𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯”, which forged inspiration to Golloso in executing his art, he said, “𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺… 𝘍𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦, 𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴”. He also added that he chose women as his art subject since they also symbolize life and love similar to his love and commitment to the arts.
Last April 5, 2023, Golloso paid a courtesy visit to SorSU President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus where he had the opportunity to share the process of his art and inspirations. He was encouraged by the President and was congratulated for creating artworks that continuously achieved national recognition which brought pride to Sorsogon State University and the province.
