On November 14, 2024, students from the Music 2, Music 4, and Art Apprenticeship courses of the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAED) program under the College of Teacher Education and Midwifery (CoTEdM), Sorsogon State University, took part in an Angklung Ensemble Workshop, held at the SorSU-Dormtel, Sorsogon City.
Anchored on the theme “Harmonizing Heritage”, the workshop provided students with a unique opportunity to explore and gain hands-on experience with the Angklung, a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made from bamboo. Led by Dr. Joel Reginales (SST IV/Moderator of Pisay Danza Serenata, Philippine Science High School Bicol Region Campus), the workshop allowed students to learn the basics of playing the Angklung. It also emphasized the importance of coordination and cultural appreciation in music education.
Organized by Prof. Lizel D. Lerios, the workshop was designed to expand students’ exposure to diverse musical traditions and deepen their understanding of the role of music in cultural expressions. The event was a significant part of the students’ academic development, contributing to their practical skills and cultural awareness as future educators in the field of arts and music.
The Angklung Ensemble Workshop was successfully held with the full support of SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs), Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus), Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia, Jr. (Dean, CoTEdM), Prof. Susan Mae A. Jamoralin (Program Chair, BPED/BCAED) and other key officials who recognize the importance of experiential learning opportunities. Their commitment to providing students with a hands-on learning environment highlights the university’s dedication to academic growth and the holistic development of its students. (SorSU PIO)
