SorSU Bulan Campus Class of 2024 celebrates academic milestone; Atty. Leni Robredo delivers the commencement address

Under the theme “Exemplifying Professionalism and Versatility in an Era of Connectivity: A Challenge to the Graduates”, the Sorsogon State University Bulan Campus Class of 2024 gathered to mark the culmination of their academic journey at the graduation ceremony on June 28, 2024, held at Bulan Gymnasium, Bulan, Sorsogon. This marked the university’s 31st commencement exercises, where baccalaureate degrees were conferred upon the graduates.

The ceremony commenced with a procession of graduating candidates, accompanied by their parents, faculty, personnel, university officials, the distinguished guest speaker, and the university president. Following the invocation led by Rev. Michael Ceazar A. Mestiola (Deacon, ICP Bulan), Prof. Ma. Elena C. Demdam, RGC (Campus Director, Bulan Campus) formally presented the candidates for graduation to SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus for the official conferment of their degrees.


The university president conferred degrees upon 484 graduates, representing various programs:32 in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS); 163 in Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT); 67 in Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS); 15 in Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA); 47 in Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information System (BSAIS); 83 in Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BSEntrep) and 77 in Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA).


The guest speaker at the 31st graduation ceremony was the 14th Vice-President of the Philippines who also serves as the Chairperson and President of ANGAT-PINAS, Inc. In her commencement address, Atty. Maria Leonor G. Robredo, declared, “Sa anumang larangan, mas makakalamang ang kabuuan ng inyong pagkatao at kung papano nyo ginagamit ang inyong kakayahan at talino. Hindi sapat ang technical expertise para magtagumpay dahil sa isang highly competitive job market place, pinahahalagahan ang tinatawag na soft skills, team work, motivation, problem solving, enthusiasm and trust”.


During her speech to the graduates, she encouraged them to strive for self-improvement and seek opportunities to uplift others. “Magsikap, magpakabuti, magpakahusay, makibahagi at maging tapat. Hindi mali ang mangarap para sa sarili at para sa pamilya pero kaakibat nito ang responsibilidad na gagawin nyo ito sa tapat at marangal na paraan at kapag narating nyo na ang mas magandang buhay, maging instrumento rin sana kayo sa pag angat ng mga nangangailangan.”


Recognizing academic excellence, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus (University President) alongside Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (VP for Academic Affairs) awarded medals to Honor Students. Kevin C. Astillero, graduating magna cum laude from BSIT Program, conveyed words of gratitude on behalf of the graduating class.


After the Pledge of Loyalty led by Dr. Perry F. Carpio (President, Faculty Association) and the Induction of Graduates to the Alumni Association led by VPAA Ricafort (President, Alumni Association), the SorSU Bulan Campus graduation rites concluded with the singing of the SorSU Hymn.
