SorSU Bulan Campus Conducts Interfaith Service and PAGSIRANG 2024: Campus Orientation

Sorsogon State University – Bulan Campus (SorSU-BC) successfully organized its Interfaith Service and PAGSIRANG 2024: Campus Orientation on September 6, 2024, at the SorSU Bulan Campus Grounds.

The Interfaith Service featured prelude music, an opening prayer, and scripture readings and reflections from selected students. It emphasized the importance of interfaith prayers for peace, unity, and a safe opening of classes for the academic year. Other SorSU-BC employees and student representatives also had the opportunity to offer prayers for the well-being of the campus. Additionally, a commitment to respect and unity was made as a commemoration of SorSU-BC’s deep appreciation and honor for various beliefs, cultures, and traditions. The service concluded with a closing prayer led by religious leaders.

Following the service, PAGSIRANG 2024: Campus Orientation commenced with preliminaries and opening remarks from Prof. Ma. Elena C. Demdam, RGC (Campus Director). Prof. Demdam shared her insights with the new students: “You have the privilege of education that others do not have. But remember, with privilege comes responsibility. You are now part of a larger community, so I challenge you to be an active and positive member of this academic community. Respect others, embrace diversity, and engage in discussions that will broaden your understanding of your course, your perspective about the world, and others.”

Next, SorSU President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus addressed the students and emphasized that SorSUenos are in capable hands with the professors and administrative staff as they pursue their degree programs. President De Jesus inspired the students by sharing her personal academic and professional journey, highlighting how modern times offer infinite possibilities for employment. She also expressed her gratitude to the students for choosing SorSU for their studies. “We truly hope that your journey with our Pamantasang May Puso will lead you to worthwhile professions and productive lives. When you graduate in a few years, we hope you will reflect the core values of our university in your personal life, family, and community: Humility in your success, Excellence in academics and profession, Accountability for all your decisions and actions, Resilience in the face of challenges, and Trustworthiness in the service of the Filipino nation.”

The orientation continued with presentations by Program Chairpersons, faculty members, and an overview of curricular policies and scholarship services. It also covered international initiatives, library services, sports, culture and arts, and guidance services. The afternoon session included discussions on general policies, student discipline, administrative sanctions, the code of ethics for students, accreditation of student organizations, medical and health services, and the student publication. This was followed by an open forum and closing remarks by Ms. Abbie Dale Goyal (Adviser, Supreme Student Council). (SorSU PIO)
