The Sorsogon State University-Castilla (Research and Development Unit) conducted the SorSU-Castilla Student Research Colloquium on Agriculture 2023 with the theme, “Cultivating Young Minds for a Dynamic Agricultural Research Community” on June 8, 2023 at the Farmer’s Training Center, Mayon, Castilla.
Providing avenues for nurturing and enhancing students’ research capabilities through colloquiums has long been ingrained in the academic community in SorSU-Castilla even before the pandemic. With the return to the new normal in this academic year, the graduating BS Agriculture students eagerly showcased their prowess in the oral presentation of their research papers in the fields of Animal Science (9 paper presentations) and Crop Science (6 paper presentations).
One of the main highlights of the activity was the speech delivered by an exemplary researcher and professor, Dr. Richard Dumilag, who is renowned for studies on marine biodiversity. He imparted to the participants that passion for research and discipline in technical writing, will pave the way for a successful research career and consequently uplift the community. He further stated that budding researchers should not underestimate the outcomes of basic researches as they can have high impact not just locally but also globally.
