The Department of Agriculture-Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (DA-AMIA) spearheaded the event titled “Launching of Climate Resiliency Farmers / Fisherfolks Fields School (CRFFS) and Turn-over of Fisherfolks Initiative for Sustainable Home-based Enterprise (FISHNET) Module and MOA Signing” on March 8, 2024 held at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall, 2nd floor of the SB Building in Brgy Aquino, Bulan, Sorsogon.
This initiative was a collaborative effort of the DA-AMIA, DA-BFAR, LGU-Province of Sorsogon, Municipality of Bulan, Integrated Rural Development Foundation and Sorsogon State University, to build farming and fishing communities, livelihoods and enterprises resilient to economic and climate shocks.
Honorable Romeo A. Gordola, the Municipal Mayor of Bulan, graced the occasion by delivering the welcome address. Josias Geraldino, Punong Baranggay of Zone 2 Sabang Bulan Sorsogon; Rodel P. Tornilla, Regional Executive Director of Department of Agriculture Region V; Mary Grace DP. Rodriguez, OIC RTD for Operations; Dr. Ana Fortes, Director for Extension Services at Sorsogon State University; and Arzi Glipo, Executive Director of Integrated Rural Development Foundation also shared their insightful messages. The rationale of the activity was then discussed by Lorenzo L. Alvina, Chief in Integrated Laboratories Division Regional AMIA Program Coordinator DA RFO 5. This was followed by the MOA signing and the turnover of the Fisherfolk Initiative for Sustainable Home-Based Enterprise (FISHNET) module. The event was concluded with the closing remarks from Sandy R. Bobier, Assistant AMIA Program Regional Coordinator.

Claire Dicen, NSTP Director; Jezzabie Gamis, SorSU Research Coordinator; Riche Justine Duran, Gender and Development Director; Glady Joy Mella, Gender and Development Coordinator; Ramil Evangelista, Vice President of SorSU Faculty Organization; Aunel Dinglasan, BS Hospitality Management Program Chair; Maria Bernadette Mirate, BS Tourism Management Program Chair; and the faculty members from the SorSU College of Business and Management: Alyssa Mae Atun, Rogelio Las Pinas Jr., Rommel Gersalia, Georgette Quinones, and Lyka Gipanao.
The Fisherfolk Initiative for Sustainable Home-Based Enterprise (FISHNET) is an extension project of Sorsogon State University- College of Business and Management which has an objective of providing training and seminar on Food Processing, Food Packaging, Entrepreneurship and Leadership to the fisherfolk residents of Zone 2 Brgy. Bulan, Sorsogon. This initiative is designed to empower the local community, providing them with the necessary skills to sustain a home-based enterprise, which in turn contributes to the overall goal of climate resiliency.
