Dance Theater & Cultural Group
The SorSU Dance Theatre and Cultural Group, Sorsogon State University-Sorsogon City, in order to promote patriotism and nationalism, propagate authentic Philippine folkdances and modern dances in relation to culture and the arts while also developing appreciation to them.
Mrs. Merlyn Meriam Salandanan was the first founder of “DTCG” (formerly known as “SSC Dance Troupe”) and created a history that is still relevant, classic, and diverse in the hearts of all students and instructors today. Mr. Ranielle Estaure was the former president of “The SSC Dance Troupe” together with the first batch of ” BEPED” as the pioneer of the said dance troupe. The SSC Dance Troupe lasted from (2008-2019)
Year 2018 Mr. Oliver Frades Garbin took charge of the SSC dance troupe as their Adviser and that’s when he changed the name of the Organization to the “Dance Theater and Cultural Group” of the Sorsogon State University. The founding members of the said dance troupe are now for all courses on campus.
Mr. Mhico Barquilla was the first president of the Dance Theater and Cultural Group, although he did not complete his term for various reasons. Ms. Blythe Nolial is the current president of the group.
Mr. Garbin has been working as the Head of Sports, Culture, and Arts over the years, and Ms. Kristel Kimberly Dellomas is the organization’s new adviser. Mrs. Lizel Lerios was the coordinator of Culture and Arts, but she did not complete her term due to her reasons. Mr. Roy Jarlego is now the newly appointed coordinator of Culture and Arts, and Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto is the campus director of Sorsogon State University.

Himig Sorsueños
A non-secretariat and non-political organization, classified as Sociocultural Civic-Religious Organization. It exists solely for mutual help of Himig SorSUenios member not for the profits and of interest of any members.
In 2002, the choir which then was still known as Sorsogon State College Music Ministry experienced a turning point as Prof. Edwin J. Balgemino took the reins of leadership. With his guidance, the group embarked on an exciting journey of growth and transformation. Prof. Balgemino’s passion for music ignited a spark within the choir, inspiring them to reach new heights. Together, they worked tirelessly to expand their repertoire and elevate their standards. Through his mentorship, the choir honed their skills and polished their performances, earning admiration and acclaim from their local community.
By 2005, the choir had undergone significant evolution, signaling the dawn of a new era. This period of growth prompted a change in identity, as the Sorsogon State College Music Ministry evolved into the SSC Chorale. This transition marked a significant milestone in the choir’s history, symbolizing not just a shift in name, but also a deepening sense of purpose and identity. From 2006 to 2016, the SSC Chorale flourished, enchanting audiences with their enchanting melodies and captivating performances. Their talent and dedication propelled them beyond the confines of their campus, establishing them as a respected musical ensemble throughout the region.
As time marched on, the choir continued to evolve, recognizing the importance of adapting to changing times while staying true to their roots. In 2017, they embraced a new identity as the Sorsogon State College Coro Concertino, a name that reflected their commitment to innovation and excellence.
From 2017 to 2021, the Sorsogon State College Coro Concertino continued to mesmerize audiences with their dynamic presentations and enchanting performances. Their music transcended geographical boundaries, resonating not only with local audiences but also earning accolades on a national scale.
In a momentous decision in 2021, the choir embraced their role as the official musical ambassadors of Sorsogon State University. With immense pride and honor, they adopted the name Himig Sorsueños, a name that encapsulated their dedication to represent the university with excellence and distinction.
Today, Himig Sorsueños stands as a shining example of the profound impact of music. Through their unwavering commitment to musical excellence and cultural diplomacy, the choir continues to touch the hearts of audiences far and wide, leaving an indelible mark on the musical landscape of Sorsogon and beyond.

Instrumentos de Cordo (Rondalla)
Group of students interested in playing chordophonic instruments, where in the elected adviser of the organization by the officers is Ms. Shayne Kate A. Gozo. The following are the purpose: to improve and promote Chordophonic musical instruments in the campus; to join festivals perform in different events, and cultural activities involved inside and outside the school; to develop Chordophonic instruments that can serve as student’s passion, leisure time and gain experience and to improve performance of each member, to learn and share knowledge to all members.
History began with the initiative of the organization adviser Ms. Shane Kate A. Goza year 2019, by selecting members from her students and appointing the first president Baby Lyka R Barloso, as one of the group pillars. Followed by the first exposure during Buwan ng Wika using only Ukulele and Guitar instruments, that took place at Sorsogon State University.
Sorsogon City Campus Covered Court. After the performance, immediately conducted selection of officers, Vice President Monica L. Uy, Secretary Maria Teresa Gracia D. Reotatar, and Treasurer- Renz Shoe G. Enesio, as part of the requirements in becoming a credited organization in the University.
The organization, was then recognized on October 15, 2019 by the Student Affairs Associate Coordinator, Dr Ramil D. Evangelista, the Student Services Coordinator, Professor Maria Crisanta M. Jarque and the Campus Administrator Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, as the Instrumentos de Cuerdas. And continued their exposure in different occasions inside the university. But was hindered by the Covid 19 pandemic.
Until year 2021, the organization was re-accredited hearing the new name Instrumentos de Cordo with a new appointed president Kevin P. Buen, and elected officers. Continuing to play reside and outside the Campus with their own instruments, but was changed in year 2023, by receiving their requested instrument with the help of the University Head in Sports. Culture and Arts: Mr. Oliver F. Garbin and approved by the University President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus.
Furthermore, the organization members were then focused on learning, and continued to play, with collaborations of different rondalla organization inside and outside the Sorsogon City. As part of it, Instrumentos de Cordo formed a good relationship and partnerships with Instrumentos de Cuerda de San Vicente Elementary School and Regional Teacher’s Rondalla, Sorsogon Province.

TAC-SAKATE (Theater Arts Club – SAyaw, KAnta, arTE)
The SorSU-TACSAKATE is an organization created for fellow students who are passionate in performing arts. It was created way back 1980 and holds a strong will to enhance and produce each ones talent and showcase them in front of countless audience, may be school based and outside events. It is also an open organization that welcomes any student from any level and course within Sorsogon State University.
TAC-SaKaTe also known as “Theater Arts Club- Sayaw, Kanta, Arte” was founded by Ms. Abelita Bernal on the year 1980. It all started with acting then later on advanced with singing and interpretative dancing. As years passed, hip-hop, modern dance and rap were adapted. The organization also joined different competitions in singing and dancing, as well as performing intermissions on different campus programs and events. To this day, TACSAKATE remains active and grows with passion and love in arts.

SorSU Marching Band & Majorettes
The Sorsogon State University Marching Band and Majorettes is the leading marching band in the province of sorsogon. lt was formed and founded during the administration of the late President Dr. Augusto R. Nieves in 2004. With the efforts of the organization’s band director, Mr. Elmer Patagan Esplana, the SorSU Marching Band and Maiorettes are serving the school and the province for almost 2 decades. lts objective is to serve the people with the best musical pieces and to put the beloved Sorsogon State University in the map of music.
The Sorsogon State College Marching Band and Majorettes that have a previous name of “Sorsogon Bamers & Majorette” is now referred to as the “Sorsogon State University Marching Band and Majorettes”, was founded in 2004 under the leadership of Dr. Augusto R. Nievas. On April 14, 2004, the school officially launched a band and majorette organization, under the direction of Mr. Elmer P. Esplana, with assistance from band alumnus, Mr. Reynante E. Espenida, having a small number of instruments and members.
It endured many challenges throughout the years, particularly during the pandemic crisis, yet it never stopped creating beautiful music that never ceased to move people. With Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus in charge, the institution has now transitioned into a university and is starting a new phase of its history.
Even though it faced many challenges throughout the year, particularly during pandemic crisis, it continued to make incredible music that never failed to move people. The school is now formally a university, led by Dr. GERALDINE F. DE JESUS, and starting a new chapter as their journey moves on .

The SorSU-GBS, is a group of students that has gymnastic skills and talents, that made them unique and special to other indivlduals. This organization cultivate the talents of students, through the proper guidance and training of skilled and educated faculty members.
