Sorsogon State University (SorSU), through the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training (OVPRET), strengthened its commitment to biodiversity conservation with the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region V on November 13, 2025, at the SorSU Boardroom, Sorsogon City Campus.

The agreement establishes cooperation between SorSU and DENR ROV for the implementation of the GEF-UNDP-DENR-funded project on the National Framework for Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) of Pili genetic resources, and promotes fair and equitable sharing of benefits derived from their utilization.


The signing ceremony was attended by SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, Dr. Ryan V. Dio (VPRET), Prof. Maria Flora J. Renovalles (Associate Professor V), and officials from DENR, including Mr. Marlon C. Francia (OIC, PENRO), Ms. Yolanda G. Saong (MSD Chief), Mr. Socrates Cabiles (OIC, TSD), Mr. Freddie Dulpina (RPS Chief), and Ms. Judy G. Doma (Chief, Planning and Monitoring Section/Alternate Focal for ABS Project).


The newly signed MOU is expected to open more opportunities for research innovation, community engagement, and the sustainable development of the Philippines’ rich genetic resources. (SorSU PIO)
