SorSU, DOST-NRCP conduct Pre-implementation orientation for project “DANAO: Demographic Characterization to Advance Nag-Aso Lake Conservation and Advocacies in Optimizing Benefits among Stakeholders”

The Sorsogon State University in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology – National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) conducted a Pre-implementation orientation for the DOST-NRCP approved funded project titled “DANAO: Demographic Characterization to Advance Nag-Aso Lake Conservation and Advocacies in Optimizing Benefits among Stakeholders” on July 31, 2024 at the SorSU New Boardroom, Sorsogon City.

The Pre-implementation orientation commenced with a formal acknowledgment of esteemed guests from DOST-NRCP, led by Dr. Aimee Lynn A. Barrion-Dupo (NRCP President). The delegation included Mr. Jesse M. Nicavera (Science Research Specialist II); Mr. Nhikerr M. Morota (Project Technical Assistant VI); Mr. Bernard Ace Romano (Accounting Staff); Mr. Jamar G. Garcia (Information Officer II, Research Information Dissemination Division); Ms. Kim Glaiza G. Wong (Science Research Specialist II); Ms. Maradika Ysiaba M. Ramos (Project Technical Assistant, RD Lead Project) and Dr. Shirley T. Palisoc (RD Leader).


Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (SorSU-Vice President for Academic Affairs) delivered the welcome address. In his message, he said “The results of research studies are worthless if these will not be disseminated and transformed into action through community outreach programs. This, I believe, is the main objective of the DANAO project and the Sorsogon State University is fully committed to undertaking it with our partner agencies. Not only for the sake of further enhancing our institutional level in the next QS ranking but especially to make a positive impact on our environment and society.”


Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training), then presented a comprehensive overview of the DANAO project, outlining its objectives and overarching significance. Following this, Mr. Jesse M. Nicavera (Science Research Specialist II), provided detailed guidelines and requirements crucial for the effective implementation of the project.


An open forum followed, allowing the attendees to engage in discussions and seek clarifications on various aspects of the project. The orientation concluded with insightful closing remarks from Dr. Leny Berdin, who underscored the project’s significance and the collaborative efforts needed to ensure its successful implementation.
