SorSU equips 74 faculty members on General Education Courses (GEC) through virtual training

To continuously ensure the highest standards of quality education, Sorsogon State University (SorSU), organized by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, capacitated a total of 74 faculty members across four campuses on General Education Courses through a virtual training via Zoom Meeting, held last August 16, 2024.

The virtual GEC training was divided into breakout rooms per General Education subject area. Within these specific sessions, the participants were trained on the core concepts of GE courses, effective teaching approaches and strategies, and a variety of relevant activities and exercises. Further, the participants partook in a series of workshops/assignments as required by their trainers, empowering them to further hone their skills and understanding in delivering high-quality instruction in the general education curriculum.


Moreover, the faculty training was led by 17 distinguished GEC trainers/faculty professors, namely, Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque for The Contemporary World; Prof. Maria Gina J. Mendones for Life and Works of Rizal; Prof. Cyra Mae R. Soreda & Mr. Elden G. Orgela for Science, Technology and Society; Mr. Bleake Edmund L. De Guzman for Ethics; Dr. Virginia P. Atutubo for Understanding the Self; Prof. Jerome B. Gigantoca for Readings in the Philippine History; Ms. Ritzi C. Fullente for Art Appreciation; Prof. Christine H. Ferolino, Ms. Karen Mae H. Palabrica, & Prof. Anthony L. Madrazo for Mathematics in the Modern World; Prof. Christine D. Romorosa & Prof. Mabel E. Duka for Purposive Communication; Prof. Ruth P. Barcelo, Dr. Felino S. Jasmin, Jr., & Ms. Glady Joy M. Mella for Gender and Society; and Ms. Justeen Frances D. Manuel for Philippine Indigenous Communities.


The GEC training concluded with a closing message from Dr. Errol G. De Castro (ICC, GEC-In charge). Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia, Jr. (Dean, CoTEdM), in lieu of Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs), provided the welcome remarks and the training mechanics/general orientation. (SorSU PIO)
